Last week, I introduced the idea of trading lists or ad swapping, and got a few questions about it not being clear, so let’s try thinking of it as a partnership with another list owner for each of you to promote each other for free, and reap the benefits.
If you have a newsletter you send out to a list of subscribers, you have an opportunity to sell ad space on it, which is typically called a solo ad. It’s very similar to ad space in your side bar on your blog, except the readers and audience are seeing your ad in an email.
Ads can be in various forms too. You might display a graphic image, you might have an excerpt to an informative blog post, with your opt in box at the footer. You might have a link to your subscription landing page. It’s up to you how to market yourself in each instance.
In a partnership to grow your lists, you are skipping buying ad space, and instead finding another list owner as a one time partner, where you both promote each other to your readers and subscribers, and ask them to sign up for their partner’s newsletter. You have the same benefit as purchasing ad space without making the purchase.
