The One Piece Mommy Makeover…

A Mommy Makeover with Just One Piece…

As females, I think we all love to nest.  It’s built into our DNA. We’re supposed to fluff and feather and gather all of the pretty things around us to make a home of style.  I know I do!  But, you can easily break the bank on this stuff.

makeoverI’m starting a new series here, that is not about a total home re-do-wallet kill, but finding that singular item that you love, and placing it in your home for immediate gratification and style. It’s an easy makeover.

When you walk into your home and that particular makeover space, it should have in it the things that just make you feel good! Over time, you can add more and more singular items, allowing time for budgeting, and then your space shapes and evolves, which is more fun anyway!

A good place to start in the home is the living room.  Maybe you have an old couch handed down, or it’s not quite your style, but you can alter the look and style of your space by focusing on the coffee table or side table as an easy choice.  If you want to makeover modernize it a bit, switch out your coffee table to something like this:

Large Circles Coffee Table by Michael Arras…

makeover

It’s offered in a variety of wood stains and even orange, green and yellow if that’s the look you need.  It’s modern, but still timeless for your home. As another makeover idea, try setting something interesting on any of your surfaces in your home, which is the most easy and affordable way to start, like this

Made to Order Re-purposed Book Page Letter K by Little White Dog…

makeover

Or just a simple set of Yummy Fried Eggs Coaster Set by Chapulin…just fun!…

makeover

Maybe a change out of your side table is a better option for you, especially if you need something more rustic and traditional in style to soothe anything too harsh and modern, or to blend your makeover look more.  I love this mix below, from

Barnwood Side Table by Modern Arks…

makeover

makeoverAre tables too expensive still to tackle? Then always go for a lamp change.  That one lamp in your makeover area of your home can just make it, and when that light is on in the evenings, it’s even more fabulous.

Lamps like shoes, can complete the outfit or break out of the mold!  They are truly your style marker.  Don’t forget, you can always just change a shade too for a new, easy look!

Here’s a great lamp to shape any room…

makeover

The Smooth Rock Lamp from A Wandering Soul…so simple, soothing and lovely!

Another option if you can’t buy a new piece is to change the hardware on something old, and why not go for something unexpected like this

Fused Glass Drawer or Pull in Retro Brown Red by Knobs and Pulls on Zibbet…

makeover

And you could just add an accent pillow on your couch or chair to compliment them…so easy…

makeover

This is Esoneofone’s Luxury Gold and Lace Pillow

makeoverHere’s a very clever way to update any hand me down furniture style you think you are stuck with…switch the fabric or paint, especially on chairs and benches, where removing the seat cushions and recovering them is a pretty simple and easy task. Just unscrew, unstaple, recover, staple and screw again. Voila!…you get a makeover with that great mix of old and new like this

Shabby Chic Jacobean Chair by Grey Maggy…

makeover

Or another Grey Maggy makeover…look at what you can do at home with an old Dining Room set from Grandma!…

makeover

This one will take a little extra budgeting, but is a singular piece makeover to satisfy both Mommy and Daddy.  Not easy to do, right?…

What is your singular piece makeover in your home?

Those things are SO cute! I love the fried eggs coasters. I wish I had a “singular piece”, but our home is more based on comfort and what won’t break due to WWF moves by my boys, lol.
Found you off VB- I hope you’re having a great day!

Thank you so much for including my lamp. I got the idea from thinking of afordable ways to decorate actualy. My family always used what they found to make awesome things. My grandmother even had a wall done in small squares from a wall paper sample book.

Gorgeous collection! Thanks a million for including my letter K.

I love your blog and I totally agree with the idea of allowing the decor of a room to evolve over time. Just by living in rooms every day it’s easy stop really seeing them, they become something in the background. I think the pieces of furniture or decor that are collected along the way that are associated with memories of a time or a place or a person can bring them to the foreground and really create a richer, happier living experience in everyday places.

Everyting is beautiful! I bought rather large sturdy dining room table initially for my sewing room. All it needs is the top refinished and it would be gorgeous. That will be something I need to do in the near future.

I’m actually a Real Estate Broker too, and I do stage houses. For some reason, I can walk into a room and know what to change and edit, and usually without spending any money, which my clients love:) Thanks Laura and Shelly, and Becky, please let us know when you post it! Could be fun to feature it here too!

I love the fried egg coasters! I saw a huge shag rug somewhere the other day that looked just like a fried egg. The yolks were raised up and functioned as stools!

What a great idea for a series! My hubby and I just bought a new house that is double in size of our old one. We have several rooms that we can’t furnish with new stuff right now, so I’m going to take your advice. I really, really love that coffee table. How unique!
